I am composing this report to inform the recipients of the loss of Progon. My world has come under assault by Necron forces, and I fear it will not last much longer. Everything in this report is based on observations we have of the Necrons working their plans.

We can but guess as to how the aliens entered our system, but what they did then is no longer a matter of speculation. We found a small Necron base on an asteroid floating within the Herui Belt. I did not have the remaining forces to take out this base, so I hope that word of it will reach the Imperial Navy. This base was only found after the assault launched by the Necron fleet.

The local members of the Cult Mechanicus inform me that they believe some form of teleport array or portal was placed on the asteroid, which was then used to perform small raids, causing chaos to erupt in many cities across Progon. These raids were performed over a span of nine months, during which time we could not pinpoint the origin of the attacks.

While this was happening, it is believed that the Necrons established a series of shipyards (which I have seen, and recorded images and sensor reading of; they are attached to this message).  These shipyards were used to build several light warships, which were used to devastate our defense fleet through a series of hit-and-run attacks followed by a full fleet action.

When the main force of Necron ships arrived, I was unable to put up much of a fight. My own ship, the Respite, was heavily damaged, with many of its plasma batteries shattered. I ordered my own ship to remain out of the battle and record the events taking place, so that we could gain a better knowledge of the way these aliens fight.

Within three hours, the space fleet was gone and Progon was assaulted by thousands of Necrons. Quickly thereafter the planet was embroiled in fighting with Necrons appearing almost everywhere. In a last desperate act I attacked the Necron fleet from the rear and launched several missiles at the highest concentrations of Necrons on the planet. I managed to destroy or heavily damage four Necron ships before the rest set upon us like angry hornets. My ship was battered until I finally ordered that the power be shut down so that we would no longer resemble a viable threat to the Necrons.

In the time that we've drifted, I have compiled this report, along with the many images that we have collected. It is my hope that this report will find its way into the right hands and that Progon will be avenged.

But right now, I must return to the men. The air is getting cold and the ship is beginning to get dark. I know that we are losing all power and that we will not survive this, but I have not told the men. I pray that the Emperor will forgive me for this failure.

This report suggests a means of launching an assault that we have never witnessed before from the Necrontyr. It also presents us with a great chance to study a Necrontyr military base.  However, we are faced with a large fleet and unknown defenses besides. I pray that we may somehow seek vengeance for this unprovoked assault on a strategically unimportant world, but knowing the facts I can appreciate how difficult such a task will be.

I have attached the images recorded by Cmdr. Rafel to this report. They are labeled NMB.112-118, NSF.202-249, and NPA.301-323. I have examined them and will add my observations to those already established.
