Disturbing Report From Necrontyr Pyramid My Lord,
Recently I received a report from an Adept who is being held in the custody of the
Inquisition on Gharrol II. They believe he is insane, but agreed to let me have one
communication with his under their supervision, as well as receive the field report he
authored for me. What is contained within the report is chilling.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Magos Malkar, I apologize for the haste with which I write this report. I must inform you
of an amazing event I witnessed, and I regret that I am the only witness left to write
this report.
My team, headed by Magos Kemlyr, was performing a routine investigation of what we
believed was a 'dead' Necrontyr pyramid. Believing it to be devoid of functioning
drones, we made our way through the pyramid, mapping it with precision. I believe the map
is now destroyed, but there is little I can do about that.
As we neared the center of the pyramid, where the great stasis chambers should be, our
sensors went dead. Believing it to be nothing more than a glitch, Kemlyr decided to carry
on with the investigation. Moving closer to the chambers, much of our other equipment
began to fail. As we reached the main chamber, Kemlyr carefully opened its portal,
somewhat amazed that the 'key' still worked. As the portal opened fully we were treated to
a most beautiful sight, a fully functioning stasis chamber. Though it was very
obvious there was something going on inside the chamber, Kemlyr decided to enter.
As we walked along, we witnessed many rows of Necrontyr drones. First Warriors, then
Immortals, then more advanced drones. In many rows the stasis machines were empty.
This should have been warning enough for Kemlyr, but he still decided to press on. I do
not like questioning the sanity or competence of a superior, but I felt his actions were
not thought through very well.
I felt a chill as we got a large portal that was decorated with ornate hieroglyphs. We had
never encountered such a portal before, and nothing like it was in our databanks. I
suggested we turn back, but Kemlyr merely pitted me with an angry glare and had Marniss
open the portal. Kemlyr said maybe I didn't have the stomach for this kind of work. Maybe
I don't, I don't know. I simply kept on moving with the other Adepts.
Through the portal was a small chamber, but I barely got a glance at it. What I saw were
very ornate stasis devices arranged in a circle around what appeared to be an altar, or
maybe a coffin. In those devices stood towering Necrontyr armed with long bladed weapons,
their cold blue eyes dim. I didn't notice much of anything else, because the center of the
room dominated my attention. Rising out of the 'coffin' was an elaborate Necrontyr Lord,
rising to his full height of ten feet, his metal gleaming body contrasted by the
dust-covered green and gold cape he was wearing. Above his was a glowing spectral shape,
hanging in the air. I was petrified when I saw the hovering form, but I felt my heart stop
for a moment as it spun to face us.
The spectral form was large, almost fifteen feet in height. It appear to be a
featureless, roughly humanoid body shrouded in tattered robes, carrying a large scythe.
Its hood dropped and I was shocked to see in inhuman skull. It wore a look of pure rage,
and screamed out in an ancient language that I could neither recognize, nor remember
since. From around the stasis chamber outside several Necrontyr stepped out of hiding to
surround us, pointing their gauss weapons at our party. As our servitors turned to fire,
they were cut down by the Necrontyr's fire. Kemlyr and those closest to the spectral form
were quickly sliced apart by the floating creature's scythe. In a fit of sheer terror, I
dropped by equipment and weapons and ran, leaving behind me the sounds of weapons fire,
bones crunching, flesh being torn apart, and horrible screams. I have no idea how I
survived.
Sir, I do not know what I saw that day. It acted, fought, and even looked like a god. Were
I not wholly devoted to the Machine God, I might believe this was the god of Death itself.
I hope you will know what to do with this knowledge. The Inquisitors seems to think I'm
mad, but I assure you that is not true. Please let the other teams know what happened so
they can be prepared. If they come across one of these portals, they must not open it!
I must go now, sir. Thank you for listening to me.
Adept Biologis Joril Grachus
------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am at a loss for what to say, or do, in light of this
report. I cannot say that I know what Adept Grachus witnessed, but it is
possible it may have been one of the ancient C'tan. If it is, then a host of questions are
opened to us, including what to do about these C'tan.
I pray we will know what to do.
Your obedient servant,
Magos Biologis Urieth Malkar |
