Bringers of Death

By Richard Walter

Garret wanted to see how his new team-mate, Morrison, handled himself against the hordes of Chaos. After an hour of travelling, A.W.A.C.S Team Three had finally came to their target.

The Point man of the regiment spotted some Chaos Cultists moving through a large clearing nine hundred yards in the distance. The Squad crouched low and the word was passed for 'snipers up'. Garret was already running to a small rise about seventy-five feet away on the other side of a small hill, with Morrison right behind.

The A.W.A.C.S Lieutenant was yelling and swearing as loud as he dared for Garret to slow down and check for booby traps. If Garret heard him, he didn't give any indication, and in a few seconds he assumed a kneeling position. As trained, Morrison took his spot two feet to his left rear. By the time Morrison had focused his field glasses and confirmed the heretics had weapons, Garret had his breating under control, and the first shot rang out.

A Traitor at the center of colum dropped. Morrison heard himself say,'Hit,' the same way he had said so many times before. Garret looked the picture of concentration, it appeared if he had ice running through his veins. To him, it was just another day on the shooting range.

All the Cultist's, all but one, began running and draggin their fallen comrade towards the tree line where they came from. A second shot screamed forth, shattering the early morning, a Heretic towards the front of the chargin mob fell. 'Hit' Morrison said calmy as he watched them pick up the second body of their brethren and make for the trees. One Heretic, the one who appeared to be the unholy mobs leader, made the grave error of fleeing to a far away tree line. He had made two mistakes.

His first was getting seperated from the main unit. His last was trying to rejoin them with a Sniper watching. Another shot sang out, and he fell to the ground. For the third time in barely half a minute, the word 'Hit' came from Morrison's lips. The spotter nothing. The reality of the situation had yet to sink in.
